Disciplinary Philosophy

As a school we desire to address the needs of the whole child—spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially and physically. Each student is nurtured and guided in individual expression and given boundaries and consequences by which to grow to a greater level of responsibility, self-discipline and understanding. By providing clear guidelines, consistent and fair enforcement, and a godly model for students, we will provide a sound learning environment so each child can develop to his/her fullest God-given potential.

Discipline is integral to teaching, learning and growing in faith, “because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in” (Proverbs 3:12). We believe that the school, the church and the parents need to share in this cooperative effort.

Discipline educates on both an individual and a collective basis. Therefore, a disciplinary procedure should promote respect for the dignity of individuals as well as respect for authority and established standards. “Respect” translates into our love for God, self and others and respect for the property of others.

Everyone in our school community has the right to expect that the school environment shall be safe, well-organized and conducive to teaching, learning and living. It is the responsibility of the students, parents, teachers and administrators to respectfully see that such an environment is maintained. To this end, our disciplinary code must...

1. Be preventive in nature.
2. Promote self-discipline and develop personal responsibility.
3. Concern itself with the welfare of the individual as well as that of the entire school community.
4. Promote a close working relationship among students, parents and the school staff.
5. Discriminate between minor and serious offenses, as well as between a student’s first and repeated offenses.
6. Provide disciplinary responses that are appropriate in degree and context to the misbehavior.
7. Be enforced by all in the school community in a way that is firm, fair, reasonable and consistent.
8. Encourage a high regard for every person’s right to reasonable due process.
9. Comply with the laws and directives of the State of Ohio Department of Education.

Dress Code

It is the desire of the CCS Association to encourage an atmosphere of creativity, scholarship and mutual respect among our students, staff and parent volunteers. We also believe that Christ should be honored and respected by our appearance.

With this in mind, we have established standards for dress and appearance for our school. Briefly, our dress code requires navy or khaki pants, skirts and jumpers.  Shirts must be plain with collars--dress, polo, or turtlenecks in red, white, light blue or navy.  Detailed in our school handbook, these guidelines are intended to promote appropriate apparel and grooming habits that will not be a distraction in the classroom. Every effort has been made to avoid a legalistic approach to this sometimes sensitive issue.
