Frequently Asked Questons

Is Cornerstone Community School operated by a particular church or denomination?CCS was founded by people from a number of denominations who were concerned about providing a school with Biblical principles totally integrated into the curriculum.  We are independent, and our board and students represent many different churches.

Is Cornerstone School accredited?  Our school has met or exceeded all standards for elementary schools (K-6) set by the State of Ohio. We are chartered by the state.

Do you have qualified teachers?  All our teachers are licensed or certified by the State of Ohio.  Cornerstone recognizes the value of continuous education and provides opportunities for our full time staff to pursue advanced degrees and training.  Our special area teachers also have teaching certificates and have extensive experience working with elementary students.

How is Cornerstone different from other Christian schools?   In addition to our class size limited to eighteen students, there are two strong distinguishing characteristics of CCS. First, all our curriculum has been written to integrate biblical principles throughout, rather than our using secular curriculum with Christian teaching included as an add-on. Students therefore are able to continually learn that all of God's world is inter-related. Secondly, we view each individual as a unique creation of God with specific talents and learning styles that are God-given. We strive to affirm the strengths of each student and foster mutual respect among our students for individual uniqueness. We also offer a variety of learning styles in our curriculum, because we know that some students learn best by visualizing, some by listening, and others by manipulating materials. As a result each student is able to learn through his or her own preferred style and also is strengthened through the reinforcement that research indicates does result when as many as possible of the senses are used in the learning process.
